Anyone know this squadron I.D.? Check artwork on back of A-2!

This A-2 just sold last Saturday (Feb.7) at an auction in Huntington, Mass. for $2,500.00. Does anyone here recognize the squadron insignia? The artwork on the back is probably the most original theme I've ever seen and professionally done, too!

I believe this historic patch is from the 401st Bomb Group 614th Bomb Sq as it looks like JDK's 5 April 2008 post last update 28 April 2014.

614th BS, 401st BG, the Lucky Devils. The B-17 'Secret Weapon' belonged to Lt. Utter and crew (no.7) according to this photo from 1945:

Back of photo says:

Lt. Utter And Crew (Crew 7) Of The 614Th Bomb Squadron, 401St Bomb Group, Pose On The Wing Of The Boeing B-17 "Flying Fortress" 'Secret Weapon' At An 8Th Air Force Base In England, 12 March 1945.

Also check the A-2 picture collection at the website 401bg.org as one picture shows a large red outhouse with the title "Uncle Tom's Cabin"

Very nice jacket. On Ebay it would probably have sold for more....

That one is a beauty!

I agree, it would have sold for way more on ebay.

Tom (Der Finn), if you got it, you got a heck of a great jacket at a super price!

Couldn't agree more - guy must have kept that in a temperature, humidity controlled oxygen chamber for 70 years! Outstanding!

Thanks for posting -

Best to all,

Normally I don't check the auction listings more than 50 miles away from home, but had I known about this one I probably would have taken the time and driven out west just to see it in person. An absolutely outstanding example, and I'm sure the new owner is thrilled to have it.
