kanemono Posted February 10, 2015 Share #1 Posted February 10, 2015 Here is a collar disc and a button from the 102nd Cavalry Regiment (New Jersey National Guard) which was constituted in March 1921 as part of the 21st Cavalry Division. The origin of the unit was with the Essex Troop of Light Cavalry, organized in 1890. Dick

Salvage Sailor Posted February 15, 2020 Share #4 Posted February 15, 2020 Very nice items, missed these the first time around. In the 1980's I worked with an architect who was in the Essex Troop and later the 102nd in WWII. After the annual horse show in 1939 at the Essex Troop armory in Newark, his troop was the first to ride over the George Washington Bridge to Manhattan. Salvage Sailor Posted December 11, 2023 Share #6 Posted December 11, 2023 Interesting that the 'Twilight of the Horse Cavalry' link does not list the service of the Cavalry Regiments in the Hawaiian Department other than the short lived 17th Cavalry which briefly served on Oahu. A note for the 'Wiki Researchers', always cross check the public pages and hit the resources (i.e. books and journals) The 4th & 5th Cavalry served in Hawaii for years.
