A few facts for that aren’t aware. The actor is the same kid from Jurassic Park. Also, the family thought he did such a good job in the mini series that they gave the actor Sledge’s pipe. After the family saw the series and liked the portrayal so much, they gave the original pipe to the actor. I think it’s mentioned somewhere on the extras disk of the boxset. Maybe in the character bios they produced.

kfields Posted August 15, 2021 Share #181 Posted August 15, 2021 The picture and pipe belonged to my uncle's father who served in WW1 in the signal corps with the 38th Division. Here he is back at the family home on his return, probably 1919, smoking that pipe. Kim
patches Posted December 21, 2021 Share #182 Posted December 21, 2021 Walter Krueger with the Pipe when he was a Brigadier General in the late 30s, at this time Krueger was commander of the 16th Infantry Brigade, the active brigade of the 8th Division at Ft Meade Maryland, too bad Krueger isn't wearing the 8th Division patch on his shirt. Krueger of course goes on to lead the 6th Army in the Pacific in WWII.

Krueger of course goes on to lead the 6th Army in the Pacific in WWII. Did you know at the same time there was two other General Kruegers? This one in the German Waffen SS and one in the German Army. A WWI Veteran, In 1935, he joined the SS-Verfügungstruppe and served as an instructor at the SS Officer's school at the SS-Junker School Bad Tölz. He earned the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, after taking command of the SS Division Polizei, which fought on the Leningrad front. Krüger became commander of the SS Division Das Reich in March 1943. After that, he went on to become the inspector general of infantry troops of the Waffen-SS. He was then posted to the VI SS Army Corps (Latvian), a paper command. On 22 May 1945[a], Krüger committed suicide in the Courland Pocket fourteen days after the surrender of Nazi Germany.
