usaaf93 Posted February 4, 2015 Share #1 Posted February 4, 2015 Hello I just wanted to share you my latest find. It's a nice early A3 harness. I was so happy when I found it. It will perfectly match the F2 suit I shared with you a couple of months ago. It is named to Capt K P Carson O-523659 but I have not found anything on him so far. WWII Parachutist Posted February 5, 2015 Share #6 Posted February 5, 2015 Awesome harness! Is that a January 1943 or 1944 date?
usaaf93 Posted February 5, 2015 Author Share #7 Posted February 5, 2015 Thanks for your comments. I knew you would appreciate it WWII parachutist ! It is dated january 1944. Do you know why there are some red stripes everywhere ? Was it done when they made it ? I had also never seen a backpad with dark straps like this one. littlebuddy Posted February 5, 2015 Share #9 Posted February 5, 2015 Thanks for your comments. I knew you would appreciate it WWII parachutist ! It is dated january 1944. Do you know why there are some red stripes everywhere ? Was it done when they made it ? I had also never seen a backpad with dark straps like this one. Looks the the red stripes were drawn on so the "tacks " could be positioned properly LB
WWII Parachutist Posted February 5, 2015 Share #10 Posted February 5, 2015 Thanks for your comments. I knew you would appreciate it WWII parachutist ! It is dated january 1944. Do you know why there are some red stripes everywhere ? Was it done when they made it ? I had also never seen a backpad with dark straps like this one. Riggers added those red markings when they custom fit the harness to the individual. They would have the person try on the harness, properly adjust it, quick mark out the dimensions, and then hand tack the webbing later. The markings wear off pretty fast, so this harness must have been only lightly used. It is interesting to see those dark OD retaining webs on the back pad. Reliance gear is usually characterized by the golden khaki webbing. I knew they were using the darker 1-1/4" webbing by July 1944, but apparently they started earlier than that.
