One of the things that's interesting is the order of precedence list. The Navy Cross didn't go in front of the DSM unless it was for combat; this was changed in 1942.

 

Also the Specially Meritorious Medal is right below the DFC, as opposed to 1942 when it was moved down to between the PH and PUC.

 

Also what's interesting is that differentiation between an Army and Navy DFC, and the precedence for Army awards (SS and PH).

 

By 1941 the Brevet Medal had moved up to just below the MoH.

MPAGE: True, they changed things around like you stated, in 1942. Its interesting to see what the Department of the Navy rather than a civilian publisher for an encyclopaedia described as the former is the official sourse. I do hope that that those interested in navy uniform regulations will benefit from these scans here. I saw a cop of the 1941 navy uniform regs being sold for a nice chunk of change. Mavy rates have greatly increased in demand and value and even battleship grey rank marks (should boards) are coming into their own. Thanks for the imput! ermm.gif

Plate 84. Navy Cross, Distinguished Service Medal (Navy), and Distinguished Flying Cross. :lol: The U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps flying personal qualified for the D.F.C. as did fliers in the U.S. Army Air Corps, later known as the United States Army For Force.
