Hello, I came across this recently and thought I would post it. It looks like a test sample for what became the USAF J-4883A Jacket. It has a built in hood and buttons for an inner liner. I am guessing this is from the 1950's? Does anyone have any more information on the J-4883A jacket and who used it and when ?

Cool...never seen a med lab tag on one of these...the first issue was the shade 509 USAF field jacket...a gray color. I am not up to snuff on the year they came out,, but around 1958 ballpark, maybe earlier????

...they then switched to the OG107 color...same pattern. The USAF dropped them in favor of the standard issue M65...I have books with them still being used in the early 70's at Dover AFB

I don't think it ever had a cool name like the M51 or M65...generally referred to as the Air Force field jacket...others will and can tell ya more about it..

I recently sold my deadstock liner on ebay, but kept the jacket.. I use a modified M65 liner in it...less bulky

anyway very nice

When I joined the Air Force in 1968, some of the guys were issued the olive green Air Force Field Jacket. When I got out of Tech Schoo; and into the "Real Air Force" they did not have liners for the M65 Field Jacket, they issued liners for the Air Force Field Jacket. We didn't have to turn the liner in when we transfered out.
