Hey folks, Just wondering if anyone could give me a hand ID'ing this Navy flag. It is made of wool material & measures 6' X 3'. Has a few moth holes, but is in not to bad a shape. The spine is marked BATTALION / INFANTRY MI 44. I've done some research on the net & reference material, but haven't had much luck. I'm guessing this could possibly be a CB flag. Any knowledge out there on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks......

Its a naval battalion flag. If it were CB it would have a unit designation.

its from Mare Island 1944, so WWII era Mfgr.

Still a very nice flag!

The flag website at http://www.seaflags.us/parade/colors.html

says:

The Navy infantry battalion flag dates back to the late 19th century, when it was adopted as a battalion color for ships' landing parties ashore. A memorandum in the collections of the Navy Department Library speculates that it may have originated in an order by Rear Admiral John Dahlgren in 1864, issuing "distinguishing pennants for the battalions of the fleet brigade . . . marked with an anchor."
