firebaseb Posted January 29, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 29, 2015 Hey folks, Just wondering if anyone could give me a hand ID'ing this Navy flag. It is made of wool material & measures 6' X 3'. Has a few moth holes, but is in not to bad a shape. The spine is marked BATTALION / INFANTRY MI 44. I've done some research on the net & reference material, but haven't had much luck. A memorandum in the collections of the Navy Department Library speculates that it may have originated in an order by Rear Admiral John Dahlgren in 1864, issuing "distinguishing pennants for the battalions of the fleet brigade . . . marked with an anchor."
