I wonder if the masks were stored in the box, on a shelf, in a locker of sorts>>>???? I have read accounts of flyers from WWII maintaining their own equipment, not that it was the norm.... just wonder how utilitarian the box was or if it was discarded after issue?? mounted in the plane for storage???
