DougO Posted January 27, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 27, 2015 Just picked up this grouping to Don Cook, who served with the 517th during WW2. Doug

David D Posted January 27, 2015 Share #3 Posted January 27, 2015 Great grouping! By the looks of it I am guessing he was a career soldier. -Dave

firefighter Posted January 28, 2015 Share #7 Posted January 28, 2015 That is an awesome grouping. The numbered crossed rifles & 187th RCT patch are very nice.I see the master parachute badge has 2 jump stars. He must have jumped with the 517th (Operation Dragon) & 187th RCT ( one of two durn Korea).Or both jumps were in Korea with the 187th?Are any of his medals named? DougO Posted January 28, 2015 Author Share #8 Posted January 28, 2015 His medals are not named. His bolo says 'Co. A, 517th Regiment, 82nd Airborne, 1943, Don Cook Lt.'. His photo album is from the 109th infantry when they were stationed in Germany in 1953 and has a nice dedication from his CO. His jump master wings have two stars. Looks like he was likely a career soldier. Lots more to research on this one. Doug
Skip Pickett Posted January 29, 2015 Share #9 Posted January 29, 2015 Very nice. I wonder where he was awarded the Silver Star? A great research project, well done. Skip
spectre Posted January 31, 2015 Share #10 Posted January 31, 2015 Very nice, million $ question, does he have a 517 pocket patch? I'm guessing not or it would be front and center. Alan
