Guest y-bot Posted January 26, 2015 #1 Posted January 26, 2015 My grandfather was working on a book about his life and this is the section about WWII: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B277_GZyYkHQcWxlZFFrVzBiaGM/view?usp=sharing He was in the 25th Infantry Division, 27th Infantry Regiment. My mother recently gave me his uniform jackets and I'm looking for more info. I know the one patch is 2nd Marines and I assume his group fought alongside them at Guadlcanal. I'm interested in why he wore that patch being in the Army. In his book he says he was transferred to the 27th Infantry Division but his jacket doesn't have their patch. Here are some pics of his jacket: https://www.flickr.com/photos/y-bot73/sets/72157650477521731/ Please let me know if this should be posted in a different section. Thanks for any info you can give.
pathfinder505 Posted January 26, 2015 #3 Posted January 26, 2015 I have seen several uniforms where units of the CAM (Combined Army Marine) Division wore their patches like that.
blitzkrieg gsd Posted January 26, 2015 #4 Posted January 26, 2015 Very nice start to your collection. I got started in this hobby the very same way story's and uniforms from my Grandfather. That was over thirty years ago and I haven't stopped yet. So welcome to the forum and the addiction my friend.
Backtheattack Posted February 8, 2015 #5 Posted February 8, 2015 Great Ike! And a great walk in history.
JAEG_T5 Posted February 12, 2015 #6 Posted February 12, 2015 y-bot, I'll check into the section and read more. I must write up an article for tomorrow before I go into the office today. But I'm curious, what prompted your grandfather to write a book?
