Wharfmaster Posted January 17, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 17, 2015 This dog tag was removed from this soldier's temporary grave marker. You can clearly see where it was attached with iron nails through the holes. Ray was a 4th Division officer. Sadly, he lost his life to the Great Flu & pneumonia. Ray died in Germany in December of 1918, not long after victory. I assume the tag was sent to his parents in Wisconsin several years after his death. Rest in peace soldier. USdog Posted January 17, 2015 Share #2 Posted January 17, 2015 WOW.... Amazing tag. RIP soldier. This is the first WWI tag to a soldier that died in the war that I have seen. Where did you come across it?
David D Posted January 17, 2015 Share #3 Posted January 17, 2015 That is very sad how he survived all the atrocities if war but just to die right after it ended from the Flu -Dave

268th C.A. Posted January 31, 2015 Share #8 Posted January 31, 2015 That's a sad way to go, after all the crap he went through...The flu gets him. The picture to the left. Is my great uncle. He was wounded in France in Sept. 1918. In a letter written home to his wife he talks about it. She wrote him back, Before he was shipped home in Dec. His wife & unborn child died from the flu. Again a sad bad luck story.....He was crippled for the rest of his life.
