renfield Posted January 17, 2015 Author Share #26 Posted January 17, 2015 Notice the conditions that the ground crew had to work with. An engine change out of doors in the dust and heat. No fancy hydraulic tools. Just hard work. Here are three pictures of SKYLARKIN undergoing repairs.

38Driver Posted January 17, 2015 Share #29 Posted January 17, 2015 I have a buddy whose Uncle flew 25s with the 312th BG in the MTO. It's a bit of a forgotten air war over there. Thanks for sharing the photos Steve
B-17Guy Posted January 17, 2015 Share #30 Posted January 17, 2015 Those are all fantastic photos! Really enjoy seeing new photos surface. The B-25 is truly a great aircraft, I have been fortunate enough to have been flying them since 2002. It is the most pleasant flying, enjoyable and reliable airplane I have ever flown (not knocking the B17 in the least...apples/oranges). Here are a few pics from the years. As can be imagined, I have probably thousands of photos, but here are a couple. First the most recent, a beautiful 25 at the Fighter Factory in Virginia Beach, VA..."Wild Cargo" The airplane is in position for the 2014 air show, looking more like she is on a Pacific island in 1944. Second, pic from left seat en route back from a show in late 2012 over central Virginia. Note how close the prop tip gets to the fuselage Best, John
B-17Guy Posted January 17, 2015 Share #31 Posted January 17, 2015 Two more from a few years back. First, over Lake Tahoe, CA. I am flying Executive Sweet with Heavenly Body in the lead. Pic taken from the B17 Liberty Belle. Second, pic of us en route to Nellis for the annual air show, pic taken from Heavenly Body. We had many great years in Executive Sweet as show partners with Heavenly Body. John

timmer3AS Posted January 18, 2015 Share #33 Posted January 18, 2015 This is one my grandfather took in India most likely during 44-45. A nice pic of a well worn Leroy's Joy, B-25H undergoing maintenance. Have more that I'll try to post later. - Tim
TBMflyer Posted January 19, 2015 Share #34 Posted January 19, 2015 A few B-25 shots out of my collection. First off is a 12th BG B-25D, somewhere in the MTO. Another 'J' model is from the 319th BG when they flew the B-25 for a short while in late 1944.
TBMflyer Posted January 19, 2015 Share #35 Posted January 19, 2015 A couple of B-25's from the 345th Air Apaches. First is an early D-5 model before conversion to the strafer nose, from the 499th. Second is a J-11 strafer nosed bird from the 498th on Ie Shima in August of 1945.
TBMflyer Posted January 19, 2015 Share #36 Posted January 19, 2015 Last two for now, both early B-25B/C's of the 321st BG somewhere in North Africa in 1943. The second shows both the waist gun and tail gun modifications made to the early B-25's and also shows the effect of a German '88' hit on the aircraft-one tough bird!! fstop61 Posted January 21, 2015 Share #38 Posted January 21, 2015 PBJ-1D (B-25D) from VMB 413 receives a fatal hit on the port engine while on a bombing mission over Tobera Airfield near Rabaul May 5, 1944. It crashed shortly afterwards killing all seven occupants. The co-pilot was Lt. Ralph M. Jones of Griffin, Ga.

MWalsh Posted January 23, 2015 Share #43 Posted January 23, 2015 Great thread Steve, thanks for getting it started. I have a few B-25 pics too, might have more but will have to check later when I have more time. I believe that these first two were likely early 1950's as the photos that came with them were of T-33 and F-86 and other aircraft too.
MWalsh Posted January 23, 2015 Share #44 Posted January 23, 2015 In this photo, I think the one on the right was also 1950's, I am pretty sure the one on the left is WW2 era. I have no idea what unit the large spade emblem represents. I think it may have been a PTO unit but I am not sure.
MWalsh Posted January 23, 2015 Share #45 Posted January 23, 2015 This one is interesting. Wish I knew more about the unit, I suspect the info is out there, I just have not searched for it yet.
MWalsh Posted January 23, 2015 Share #46 Posted January 23, 2015 And a close up of the aircraft in the prior photo. It is captioned on the back but not with enoguh info to tell anything other than they took the aircraft to go see someone. I suspect the ladies, likely nurses, went along for fun. I love the noseart on it, and the bottles for mission emblems! Colonel True is mentioned in the caption on the back. Looks like it was his aircraft actually. Thanks for looking! TBMflyer Posted January 23, 2015 Share #47 Posted January 23, 2015 Great additions. Old Schenley was a B-25D assigned to the 501st BS, 345th Air Apaches, 5th AF. The pilot shown with the two women is Col. Clinton True who was CO of the 345th. Also an FYI- the plane on the left in post #44 is an A-20 Havoc, not a B-25. MWalsh Posted January 23, 2015 Share #48 Posted January 23, 2015 Thanks Mark! After I posted that one and saw it in larger size I saw that it might have been an A20. It was scanned with the B25 tho, one image, so I guess it has to stay Thanks for the info on Col. True and the unit too! Must have been an early, pre-gun nose model then? timmer3AS Posted January 28, 2015 Share #49 Posted January 28, 2015 Evening, Here's a couple more B-25H model pictures to share. All taken in India I believe, 12th BG. I guess Grandpa was more interested in the nose art than the rest of the aircraft, but I can't blame him. I can't say definitively, but I think "Goin My Way" may have a little battle damage on the right side. - Tim
timmer3AS Posted January 28, 2015 Share #50 Posted January 28, 2015 One more to add. Interesting to note the paint touched up on the right side of the pilots armor. Well worn aircraft! -Tim
