501stGeronimo Posted January 16, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 16, 2015 Shop walk in, got them for a mere $20.00 apiece. Not to shabby to say the least! Someone polished the wings though, which in turn removed the patina!

BROBS Posted January 16, 2015 Share #8 Posted January 16, 2015 Gotcha. Amazing that somebody would rather scrap them than sell them! Nice finds. -Brian

fstop61 Posted January 17, 2015 Share #10 Posted January 17, 2015 It pains me to think how much of these items that escape capture and actually make it to the smelter. Nice save, indeed.

Quite a few I'm sure! I went in to both of the larger coin dealers where I live over 10 years ago and told them to call me if they get any military items in for scrap. I've picked up some pretty neat items over the years that were sold for scrap value. Even grabbed a caterpillar club pin set from one of them! Tudorp Posted January 17, 2015 Share #13 Posted January 17, 2015 Very nice save, and awesome price for those. I hate seeing stuff like that in scrap silver piles. That is where I found a 1958 Air Force ring some years ago, and save it just a day before it was melted. Not in the best shape, but still.. Any of them are worth saving. Also save these wings from that same scrap pile.
