Gunslinger Posted March 31, 2016 Share #77 Posted March 31, 2016 For those who are using a Windows based computer, no additional software is needed to resize images to meet the USMF image policy Microsoft has a picture tool built into the Operating System since Vista, unfortunately you can't do bulk edits at once this would require additional software To edit your images follow the simple process outlined below >Find the image >Right click the image and select edit >Select resize >Select pixels >Apply the Horizontal: 600 or less (I use max of 550 pixels) >Enable Maintain aspect ratio >Select OK >Save Image will be resized to around 40 KB Some additional tips to make great looking pictures for your posts and the web 1. Disable the flash (this feature is not needed) 2. Use a light box or a well lighted area with natural light 3. Use a WHITE background 4. Use a lower resolution around 720 x 480 My Military collectibles website with Special Forces Gallery: https://rpjmilitaria.com
med-dept Posted April 3, 2016 Author Share #78 Posted April 3, 2016 Hi guys, Sorry for the downtime. We had a power outage at one of our data centres and still working on restoring the backups. The tool should be back online now at the old URL: http://ben-major.com/tools/usmf-resize.php Cheers, Ben. Shakethetrees Posted April 15, 2016 Share #81 Posted April 15, 2016 I just resized a couple of raw images I resized by an older resizing program and the difference is stunning. I posted them to the wing section under a "test" heading if anyone would care to see them. My post of several days ago under the title "Admiral Doyle's Wings" in comparison is terrible. Mods, if you can delete both postings I will redo using the USMF software. I have too much stuff! Revolutionary War through Korea. Lots of field gear, some uniforms and "one or two" medals and a bit of insignia. Plus lots of odds and ends, too many and varied to go into detail here. Just ask and I'll try to help. Who knows? Maybe we can work something out!
Cololab Posted April 21, 2016 Share #82 Posted April 21, 2016 I have an iPad 3 that seems to function fine with the usmf resize program up to the point of actually getting the drop down menu for a file save location. When I hit the process button, I get an image of the photo to be resized but no menu for where to save the resized file. Is my machine not totally compatible with the resize program or am I doing something incorrectly?

Cololab Posted April 21, 2016 Share #84 Posted April 21, 2016 Unfortunately, I'm not getting any download dialog box after I hit the process image button on the usmf resizing program. The only thing that comes up is a full screen image of the photo I selected to be resized. All I seem to be able to do with that image is to use the iPad tool bar to save it, however it is saved as the same full sized image I tried to resize with the usmf program. If there are some settings that I need to change on this iPad 3, maybe someone can enlighten me. I readily acknowledge that I am anything but computer literate, but as far as can determine I am following the resizing program directions.

med-dept Posted May 10, 2016 Author Share #86 Posted May 10, 2016 Cololab, the image that is presented to you after clicking "Process" is actually the resized version. It's just that the iPad (and other i-devices) do not support direct file downloads If you tap and hold on it, you should be able to Save Image. Thanks, Ben. Cololab Posted May 11, 2016 Share #87 Posted May 11, 2016 Thanks Ben. I will play with this and see if I can get it to work. In the interim, I have been able to use my Microsoft image resizing program on another computer.

med-dept Posted December 28, 2016 Author Share #98 Posted December 28, 2016 88thcollector, it should present the file(s) to download directly to your browser when you click on the "Process" button. You should be prompted to save the file automatically somewhere on your computer. Thanks, Ben. Stony Posted January 2, 2017 Share #100 Posted January 2, 2017 I just used the forum resizing tool and some of my photos were still too large to post. All my photos were taken with my cell phone camera, so how come some of them uploaded and some didn't? Thanks! Always buying USMC named uniforms and unit marked items.
