Recommended Posts

I have had this photo for a few years, and have not been able to ID it. If it is possible, can anyone here help?

I honestly don't know however it does appear to be from that era, but I really like the old biplane flying over! What a neat picture.

I think the ship is either the USS Delaware or the USS North Dakota of the Delaware class. The five 12" gun turrets are characteristic of the Delaware class.

It looks like the USS Texas of New York built in 1912 and later participated in supporting fire to the USMC landing at Iwo Jima WW2..

I think the second to last turret on the USS Texas (and USS New York) was elevated. The second to last turret in the photo in the original post appears to be at the same height as the fifth turret. Below is New York class battleship.

Looking at the original post again its going to be a Florida class battleship (either USS Utah or USS Florida). Very similar to Delaware class with the main difference being the location of the smoke stacks. On the Florida class they were both between the masts. On the Delaware class one was between the masts the other was just aft of the main mast. Below is a line drawing of the Florida class battleship

(Cross-Posted with the above!)

BB-28 or BB-29? Looks like the correct turret configuration. (edit, see post above mine)
