oldabewla Posted January 6, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 6, 2015 A good friend and a member here Doyler sent me this video taken in 1940 of the motorcycle training which you'll mostly see are the WLA Harley's but you'll also see a few Indians also. Man, them guys could ride! Enjoy! Craig http://vimeo.com/111351424
MWalsh Posted January 6, 2015 Share #2 Posted January 6, 2015 Those videos are awesome! Makes me wonder what the attrition rate was - for riders due to injury and for wrecked bikes too. Great stuff!

Johan Willaert Posted January 6, 2015 Share #5 Posted January 6, 2015 Great compilation made by WLA rider Thomas Goode, seen on his HD on the intro picture. It is not limited to 1940 or 1941 as there is also footage from MP MC training in England and even on 42WLCs in Canada.
MWalsh Posted January 10, 2015 Share #6 Posted January 10, 2015 It's hard for me to tell for sure... Are the riders wearing the same helmets that armor crew wore?
oldabewla Posted January 11, 2015 Author Share #7 Posted January 11, 2015 I believe so Mike, the winter tanker helmets which looks to be worn in the video these also could be worn under the tanker helmet in the winter but the riders also wore other head gear as well such as just the tanker helmet and M1 pot and early war time the m1917A1 kelly helmet. SFMike Posted January 11, 2015 Share #8 Posted January 11, 2015 Friend of mine was one of those guys. Absolutely hated it. If they dumped or wrecked a bike, they went and got another. He was a scout and courier at Kasserine Pass. They had the old halftracks with 75 mms and he said they were beyond sorry. At the time the Germans had aair and artillery superiority. He ended up in scout cars in italy. He retired as a SF Command SGM. One of about 300 triple CIB recipients.
