ODA021 Posted January 2, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 2, 2015 I thought I would share some of the 10th Group plaques and items I have acquired over the years. I have always enjoyed collecting. This is an early 1950s Officer's stein.

Lee Ragan Posted January 2, 2015 Share #7 Posted January 2, 2015 I've been collecting military steins for many years but have never heard them referenced as "officer", or "enlisted" steins, unless the stein was personalized with a mans rank & name. These steins were available commercially and could be purchased by anyone who wanted to spend the money on one, Steins with lids are more desireable but those without are very collectable also. Great pieces shown here!

ODA021 Posted January 10, 2015 Author Share #14 Posted January 10, 2015 Nice. I havent seen that one before. I am guessing the provisional ones are mid to late 50s as the rosters I have are structured that way. The Striegel stein may be a little bit earlier as I have a photo of Herb Brucker with one from 54-55 time frame.
vintageproductions Posted January 10, 2015 Share #15 Posted January 10, 2015 I think it is earlier maybe 52-53 as it belonged to one of the guys in this photo ( a reunion from later). I have his beret also.
ODA021 Posted January 11, 2015 Author Share #16 Posted January 11, 2015 Do you have his name? I have the rosters for that timeframe and am friends with a half dozen of the last of the original officers. I would be curious in pinning down the date for it. vintageproductions Posted January 11, 2015 Share #17 Posted January 11, 2015 Unfortunately no. I bought this back in the early 80's before it really mattered about getting names with everything. Collector's were more concerned with items. It walked in to a friends shop in Fayetteville and all he could remember was that it was one of the first few guys to the right of the sign. SFMike Posted January 13, 2015 Share #18 Posted January 13, 2015 Lots of the old 10th groupers were "original manifest" SF. Many were recruited amongst Europeans under the Lodge Act. Some were real pro's. Many were still in service during my time. They were all nationalities and backgrounds. Old E8 on my 1st team in VN was a former Luftwaffe Flakhilfer. I met French resistance guys, Foreign Legion vets, and Chzec Freedom fighters. One guy who had jumped into Dien Bien Phu with the last volunteers. Great honor to have known and served with such guys. The 10th Group in Germany had a long and interesting history. I belong to a SF discussion group where this stuff gets tossed about every day. A couple of "Original Manifest" guys in residence. Not many left.
