I know a place next to a 5th MG BN Uniform Group that would do that uniform justice! LOL. LMK if you ever need to move it. Thanks for posting!

I noticed on his discharge that even though he had been wounded the soldier was issued a Bronze Discharge Button instead of the silver one. The 4th Battalion was a Division asset while both the the 5th and 6th MG Bns were Brigade Assets, 3rd and 4th Brigade respectively so all had different shapes for backgrounds but all had the purple background identifying them as a Machine Gun unit. The MG Companies that were assigned to the Regiments had Purple Pentagon, Circle, Square or Diamond to identify them as such belonging to the 9th and 23rd Regulars Regiments, and the 5th and 6th Marine Regiments. A great book to read is Suicide Battalions by Wendell Westover, a officer who served with the 4th Battalion. Below is the link to read it online, the pictures in it are pretty cool and detailed. Again it is a very nice grouping to a soldier who served in one of the Suicide Squads of the Great War.

That is very curious about the discharge button. His paperwork clearly calls out his wound so interesting that he did not receive recognition for his wounds?

That is a tough one, only thing I could guess is that 1 The ran out of the silver ones, 2, they did not have them in stock or 3 The station discharging the veteran made a mistake in the paperwork because he is plainly wearing Wound Chevron. It would not be the first time that some clerk made a mistake and no one, the veteran or officer did not see the mistake. Alas we will never know LOL

Thank you, yes it is a great group and is mounted with pride only wall. It is the local history of the vet that really brings it home

Thanks for the input
