doyler Posted December 29, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted December 29, 2014 Boy, those are really clean!! So the British made the reinforced Covers as well! Thanks Flage......They sure did make them as well as the T straps to complete the set.Doesnt make sense why they produced a mounted canteen cover and strap as late as 1944 seeing the US was out of the horse calvarly early let alone make 3 patterns of the canteen covers. Browninggunner688 Posted December 30, 2014 Share #13 Posted December 30, 2014 Very nice covers. I have the reinforced M1941 cover with the correct British made extension strap but it is missing the top strap section, the one with the quick release buckle ( its the little strap thats on Fausto's M1917 cover ), has any one out there got one of these straps as I have tried all over in England to get one. I would be very grateful if anyone could help me locate one. Wish I could post pictures of my British made covers but they are packed away but I have catalogued all my collection so I can at least share with you the makers and dates of the ones I have.... oldabewla Posted December 31, 2014 Share #17 Posted December 31, 2014 Nice US British made canteen covers guys! Here is a hard to find 1943 dated cover. I've posted it here before the Brit made P.S.S. 1943 unissued and the metal hard ware looks blued.

124cav Posted January 11, 2015 Share #21 Posted January 11, 2015 The US continued to train horse cavalry all the way through and after the war.Why Brit made stuff exists is another question when there was so much US built stuff in the system and no US horse units in the UK or the ETO. http://www.militaryhorse.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12116
Crasher Posted December 20, 2016 Share #22 Posted December 20, 2016 My apologies for resurrecting an old post, but do y'all know if Brit made stuff was always marked? I have a cover in excellent shape that appears to be Brit made based on the four stitches down the front, the shade and consistency of the dark khaki canvas, etc, but I do not see any markings anywhere except for the "US" on the front. It seems like it's in too nice a shape to have the markings faded away. Were they ever left unmarked?
doyler Posted December 21, 2016 Author Share #23 Posted December 21, 2016 Need a picture. There are unmarked covers but a lot of them are post war surplus ones made in Japan.
Crasher Posted December 21, 2016 Share #24 Posted December 21, 2016 You're referring to US military contract stuff made in Japan? I've heard of such things, but this one sure looks the world like the Brit-made stuff...
doyler Posted December 21, 2016 Author Share #25 Posted December 21, 2016 The canteen covers made in Japan are not contract. They were made for the surplus and camping industry. Most are unmarked but "some" have been stamped at some point with a US.
