hi , I just read a article describing US Army helicopter pilots carring Smith & Wesson model 12 snubnose revolvers with 2 inc barrels , is this correct ??

I saw chopper pilots carrying everything from .38 S&Ws, Colt .45 1911A1s, Browning 9MM, Soviet Tarkorevs,

M-2 Carbines, M-16s, etc! There was no standard "every chopper pilot must carry a specific type of pistol'

The standard issue is the standard victory model .38, but guys would carry whatever they thought they could get away with. You will see just about everything under the sun, so if someone had a snub nose .38, it wasn't issued.

I've read that soldiers parents would send them pistols, etc. in the mail. Times were sure different back then. As previously mentioned, crews carried whatever they could get away with, and felt comfortable with.
