Don"t know if this is the right topic area, so Moderators please feel free to move.

While I do have a lot of the Planchet Press books to research from. I am missing some and, in fact, don't even know if some have been published for individual medals. Here are a few I am trying to trace

US Army Civil War MNo 5315

US Army Indian Wars No259

US Army Cuban Occupation No5000

Any help would be appreciated

Keith ,

As you probably already know U. S. Army Campaign medals were issued in four varieties; "No." prefixed numbers, "M.No." prefixed numbers, unprefixed numbers, and unnumbered. (Not all of the Army campaign medals were issued in all four numbering varieties.)

Here is a quick list of what Army medals are tracable:

Army Civil War Campaign – No. 1 to No. 554
Army Indian Campaign – No. 1 to No. 1927
Army Spanish Campaign – No. 1 to No. 7800 and No. 8000 to No. 8140
Army Spanish War Service – #1 to #16650
Army of Cuban Occupation – No. 1 to No. 4102
Army of Puerto Rican Occupation – #1 to #200 and No. 201 to No. 320
Army Philippine Campaign Service – No. 1 to No. 23250 and No. 23501 to No. 25000
Army Philippine Congressional – No. 1 to No. 6179
Army China Campaign – No. 1 to No. 1228 and No. 1501 to No. 1634
Army of Cuban Pacification – No. 1 to No. 6339
Army Mexican Service – No. 1 to No. 10000 and #10001 to #12529
Army Mexican Border Service – #1 to #34012

Al Gleim (aka Planchet Press) published medal rolls for these tracable medals. The Army of Puerto Rican Occupation Medal Roll may have been published in an edition of Al Gleim's New Medal Letters.

Looks like only your Army Indian Campaign Medal No. 259 is tracable.

I'll look that up for you later today. Hope this helps.

Bruce Linz

M.No. medals are generally not traceable.

The Indian Wars medal is to Captain Edmund L. Butts, 3rd Infantry.

The Cuban Occupation is above the recorded range.

Gentlemen

Thx much. Jeff.....many thanks to you. I have been assembling BG Butts medals and had not realized that the Indian Wars medal I had belonged to him. One of the medal number resources I did not have

Will do. Still missing the 3 listed on my signature. I didn't even realize that the Indian War medal belonged to him (thought he was too young). Turns out he was a young LT straight out of West Point and participated in the Battle of the Rosebud. Will be getting his complete records here shortly
