Cap Camouflage Pattern I Posted October 9, 2019 #26 Posted October 9, 2019 Super cool helmet, thanks for sharing and thanks for bumping it!
GITom1944 Posted October 10, 2019 #28 Posted October 10, 2019 More of this type of Flak helmets may come to surface? I missed this posting back in 2014. Cool helmet. I agree with PacificGunner - I don't think the painted swastika on this helmet is the same as those seen on the M3's that have been described as the surplus store additions. Here's a modified M3 from my collection that I've posted before. It has the insignia for the 31st Bomb Squadron on the front (and 31st written on the top of the skull). The ear flaps are missing - perhaps done by a turret gunner to make it more compact. Tom
vette Posted December 26, 2019 #29 Posted December 26, 2019 I think this helmet is help in changing the theory of some that it was a surplus knock off to enhance the value. That helmet makes me think it is a very likely a combat used M3 and the swas indicate something else. I like it.
vette Posted December 30, 2019 #30 Posted December 30, 2019 This flak helmet was sold with a WW2 Italian army decal. I think there needs to be a better study as to why the decals and a swas are on some of these helmets. The ones I have seen looks like they have been used a great deal. I have questions about the surplus theory?
