anton67 Posted December 16, 2014 Author Share #26 Posted December 16, 2014 Hello FSBE, I used some Goof Off on the gold paint. I put it on a rag and rubbed the paint off. Then I dipped the rag in Goof Off and went over it again to get any residue. It took a while but it seemed to have worked well. In the end I gently washed the whole helmet with a dab of Ivory soap and water to get off any remaining chemicals.
BOLO Posted December 17, 2014 Share #27 Posted December 17, 2014 here's a salty fixed bail with liner, a recent flea market find for $8 , it had some paint spots on it about the the size of two quarters or about 2' inches that I removed with a little paint stripper on a rag, I let a small area soak for about ten seconds then quickly wiped off the marks, thats all the restoration I plan to do
ThatOneNewGuy816 Posted November 30, 2022 Share #28 Posted November 30, 2022 Do you guys think there could potentially be anything under the repaint on this liner. It appear to have been repainted maybe twice. I cant tell if there might be anything under the top Layer because it is really thick. But I am pretty sure this helmet was used right up until the 80s.
