Martinjmpr Posted December 11, 2014 Share #4 Posted December 11, 2014 Probably taken right after jump school before being assigned to an airborne unit since he doesn't have an oval behind his wings. Is there a patch? I can't tell. The only airborne units that would have been around in 1950 would have been (I believe) the 82nd, 101st, and the 187th RCT which was in Japan at the beginning of the Korean war. I don't think the 8th ID in Germany had their Airborne brigade until the late 1950's or maybe even the 60's.
BROBS Posted December 11, 2014 Share #5 Posted December 11, 2014 looks almost like I can see an 11th patch. nice pic! I found a WW2 studio glider troop photo in Dallas for $5. -Brian

Pudgy (V) Posted December 18, 2014 Share #9 Posted December 18, 2014 Wow, he really looks young. I thought the rockers weren't on patches into the 50's, wasn't there a thread on this.

BROBS Posted December 19, 2014 Share #11 Posted December 19, 2014 exactly... 1950's placement of dual brass. and what do you mean the rockers weren't on patches? you mean the airborne tab? you might be thinking of the 101st who went to a non-airborne unit later and wore the eagle patch without the airborne tab.... -Brian
