I have had little luck with identifying these 2 buttons on internet searches. Since I had such good luck with the folks on this forum I'll try again. Thanks in advance!

Top button: Coast and Geodetic Survey (part of the Dept of Commerce). This is FD57 in Alberts book.

Don't recognize the bottom one. Maybe non-military. Or non-US.

Thank you gentlemen! I should have shown this to my father as he spent 3 years after WW2 working for the USGS as a surveyor. Perhaps he might have recognised it. The un-ID'd button I thought would have thought was US. There are numerous buttons in this collection that are WW2 Dutch, Australian, New Zealand, Canadian, Scottish and English. Appreciate your help.

The second set of buttons is the last design used by United States Lines, a merchant shipping and transportation company (SS UNITED STATES),  see Transportation Uniform Buttons, Volume Number Three, Maritime and Aviation" by Don(ald) Van Court.  You can find it in a good library.  The illustration is on Plate 88, number 28; the discussion is on pp. 102-103.
