A wonderful encounter

Sitting at the USO lounge at Washington National--just had a wonderful conversation with a USO volunteer. A 90 year old Army Nurse Corps vet and polio survivor who still works to serve and take care of our troops! Talk about a humbling experience.

Very cool. It's a good opportunity to continue to do this as these folks are regrettably leaving us at an alarming rate. At the local VA hospital, the WW2 vets are becoming sporadic, but the Vietnam generation is well represented. They deserve our thanks too.

I wish I had talked more with my family members who served during WWII. Although some, including my uncle who was a Silver Star winner, did not want to talk about their experiences.
