M1879 Nebraska Senior Officer's Frock Coat

This is my first Indian Wars era uniform and am delighted that it's a Nebraska relic. I just picked this up the other day and thought I'd share it. This also came with matching trousers! The buttons all have the seal of the State of Nebraska, except on the Colonel's paddles. I'd like to find the correct style cover that was worn with this uniform. Any ideas?

Given the black background of the paddles, I would think the helmet plume would be black also. This color was resserved for staff officers.

Is there a name which cold be traced? I suspect there were few full COL's in the Nebrska national guard/militia.

I know no officers ever wore black plumes in the regular army, but I can't speak to the National Guard; a lovely find. The chapeau is probably a safe bet.

Correction--I have seen a NYNG officer's signal corps helmet with a black plume; but like I said, my knowledge of National Guard helmets is tiny compared to RA helmets. Those paddles really are spectacular.
