'Flage Guy Posted December 10, 2014 Share #26 Posted December 10, 2014 Just for grins, here is the top of the cap, which is sealed by a heavy cork gasket just like the standard Canteen.
'Flage Guy Posted December 10, 2014 Share #27 Posted December 10, 2014 The makers' stamp. The bladder has this stamp also.
USMCman01 Posted December 18, 2014 Author Share #28 Posted December 18, 2014 Wow! Nice example. I didn't know they were producing them in 1944, but 1945. Also here's one of those early cross flaps with the "DQP 1942-1943" on one of the flaps on eBay. Also look at the hook, it is completely backwards. Is this a manufacturers mistake because the webbing doesn't look field repaired. What do you think?

'Flage Guy Posted December 19, 2014 Share #30 Posted December 19, 2014 LOL...Wow, I don't quite know how to take that hook! There's only one shot of it, and I can't tell if it's backwards, bent or...???? Other than that, it looks like a really neat set, though.
knd643 Posted December 19, 2014 Share #31 Posted December 19, 2014 I am in complete agreement. Even in the middle of the War, there was much discussion and experimentation on streamlining methods of supply, and the funnel holes were just one of these experiments. Below is a photo I got from Olive Drab.com of one of the better methods of field distribution; the Lyster Bag. Note the spigots at the bottom... If you go to 3:53 in this video you'll see the Lyster bag in use. https://archive.org/details/PurificationOfWater1943
Bob Hudson Posted December 19, 2014 Share #32 Posted December 19, 2014 We have a couple of older threads about these 2 1/2 gallon water bags, which were not a personal item, but rather company-level gear. The Army had a similar item, but with no straps. https://www.google.com/#safe=off&q=site:usmilitariaforum.com+usmc+%222+1%2F2+gallon%22+water
