TCSchultz Posted November 9, 2014 #1 Posted November 9, 2014 I recently was able to obtain a complete grouping for a Private who served in France as a member of the 1st Army Headquarters Regiment Motor Dispatch Service and while I going through his items found this simple patch that I can't seem to find anywhere in my reference guides. It's on brown felt with green felt letters sewn on and appears to be shaped to the shoulder. There are two period photos of the man but neither sadly show him wearing it, but there are at least two documents that reference MDS ro Motor Dispatch Service so I have to assume that this is what it stands for. Any feedback on it would be greatly appreciated and I will post pictures of his entire grouping as well. The front and reverse
TCSchultz Posted November 9, 2014 Author #2 Posted November 9, 2014 And here's the entire grouping including his dog tags, photos, Victory Medal with the Original Box and Ribbon, VFW Medals, Overseas Cap, Discharge, Postcards, Letters, Veteran's Cap and personal items.
daniel griffin Posted November 9, 2014 #6 Posted November 9, 2014 Very interesting patch, thanks for bringing it to light.
bertmedals Posted November 9, 2014 #7 Posted November 9, 2014 Nice find and group. I have not seen that patch before either. Thanks for posting it.
TCSchultz Posted November 15, 2014 Author #8 Posted November 15, 2014 Your welcome and glad to be able to bring it to light, surprised it didn't get more reaction if it's a one of kind patch that no one has seen but it is pretty basic and looks almost homemade so I'm sure that's why.
world war I nerd Posted November 16, 2014 #9 Posted November 16, 2014 Hi Thomas, I posted your MDS shoulder patch on a thread whose topic deals with WW I, AEF brassards, which happens to contain a small amount of information on the MDS. Maybe someone there will recognize it. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/210707-us-army-brassards-armbands-1898-to-1918-part-2/page-8
