Nice additions to the topic, thanks for posting these.

The BLACK-FISH Insignia of the Submarine Rescue Vessels - "Guardians of Submarines"

ASR Blackfish 002.jpg

I've been hesitant over the years to post this one as the 'usual suspects' have been using this topic and our forum to make knock-offs of many of the patches I've posted here.

So, I'll just be showing the front of this original 1950's US made Submarine Rescue BLACKFISH patch.

I picked this up recently and did a double take initially as I thought it was a UDT patch due to the frog with a cigar in its mouth, sailor cap and dynamite which is similar to the UDT's Freddy the Frog mascot.   I found out that Harbor Clearance Unit 104 is one of the post war reserve HCUs located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

I picked this up on eBay recently. I wonder what Code 60 stands for and does anyone know if these instructors taught only submariners escape drills or did they teach or oversee the training of other groups inside of their tanks like UDT?

That's a Safety thing, The escape training is fully supervised by the regulations, but all 'Diving mishaps', including those in the tower, are reported up the chain to Commander, Naval Safety Center (COMNAVSAFECEN), Attn: Code 60.

Finally found this Deep Dive System Mark 1 shoulder sleeve patch that I have been looking for for a number of years now.  It was part of grouping of patches that sold on eBay recently.  I have a poor picture of this patch being worn by what I believe were two members of UDT that were part of the Experimental Diving Unit.   This adds to my collection of Sea Lab related insignia.
