hink441 Posted November 7, 2014 Share #1 Posted November 7, 2014 I picked up this little guy the other day. It is marked "US Navy Bureau of Ships No. 5 Compass". It was made by C. G. Conn, LTD. Elkhart Indiana. It is marked "Fore" and "Aft" for mounting purposes and has the compensating iron balls. It also has the original correction calibration card on the front. It is made of brass and is pretty heavy. I believe these are for small craft but I have been unable to determine what kind of Naval Vessel would have used this type of compass. Some people say PT boats and other's say a lifeboat, but these vessels appear to use a totally different kind of compass. Any ideas what vessel could have used this type of compass? Salvage Sailor Posted November 7, 2014 Share #5 Posted November 7, 2014 Any number of small craft would have used this compass from landing craft to lighters to yard & service craft, ........the list is long.
