vintageproductions Posted November 4, 2014 #1 Posted November 4, 2014 Does anyone recognize these Coast Artillery pieces? The first two have a standard set of CA branch insignia with a A on each side and a V at the bottom. 5th Anti-Aircraft? Not sure what the next one is. It's about an inch and a half tall. No hallmarks. Sweetheart?
vintageproductions Posted November 5, 2014 Author #2 Posted November 5, 2014 One of the AAV badges is hallmarked STERLING. The other has no markings.
MWDVET Posted December 6, 2025 #3 Posted December 6, 2025 Did you ever find out the origin of the AA with V under crossed cannons? I have read a couple different posts with the V designating victory, another with the battery number, and one even questioning if it stood for veterinary (unlikely).
atb Posted December 6, 2025 #4 Posted December 6, 2025 Possibly bly a state unit with an honorary name like Pennsylvania's First City Troop, or a school/academy.
MWDVET Posted December 8, 2025 #5 Posted December 8, 2025 Thanks for the response. Interesting thought on these insignia. I assumed the V was the anti-aircraft battery number.

MWDVET Posted December 15, 2025 #7 Posted December 15, 2025 I thought it might represent 5th. Although that would seem unusual to use a Roman numeral in this instance.

Agree on the "V" not meaning 5. I go with it standing for veteran. Possibly part of a state unit's nickname.
MWDVET Posted December 17, 2025 #9 Posted December 17, 2025 Thanks for your thoughts. I have seen both a full size and what appears to be ‘sweetheart’ size pins. The smaller one was stamped sterling.
QED4 Posted December 22, 2025 #10 Posted December 22, 2025 Here is another guess to add to the list, ROTC. Some school are branch specific and the V could be for the name of the school.
