I grew up there... There are some good shops right down around the river walk area.. One antique store in particular right near the Alamo always has a good stock of military items.

Also try Busseys flea market on the weekends. WIth 4 major military bases in San Antonio and a huge veteran retirement community... there is always plenty.

Good hunting. Eat some Taco Cabana for me please! - I'm still stuck on the east coast...

Hey thanks. Bussy's seems to be the spot right now that I've frequented at least three times now. I will continue. I'll let you know if I find anything. I've seen some things at a couple of swap meets, but nothing stellar. San Antonio has a crest maker, too, and you'd think there'd be lots. Probably is, but I just haven't found them yet. Other than being from Texas (south of Houston), we retired to San Antonio just to eat Mexican food 8 days a week. Our favorite place is Mama Margie's: all the chips and salsa you can eat man. The hobby with us is to try a mom and pop place weekly. We'll never run out of places to go. The River Walk food has paled, fallen way below par I think. I took my sweetie to San Diego to the ASMIC convention and we ate California Mexican. As I said, it was different. So Arizona and New Mexico are on the next gastronomical list.

Bussey's flea market has quite the characters.--Ray

There is a good military show in Schertz, check the events calendar for dates

Second that!

Here is the link to their show page:

http://www.acmemilexpo.com

You have to dig around on the site to find it but the next show is scheduled for Saturday, May 16 2015.

They have a Spring show and a Fall show. The promoters have been really working hard to grow this show. Each show so far has been a sell-out and they have added tables each time; there are some really good dealers bringing great Militaria.

You will see high-quality militaria from Pre US Civil War to present day.

It is a one-day show (Saturday only) so plan accordingly.

I went to the Alamo Antique Mall in downtown while visiting San Antonio - they do have militaria, however it appears the pawn stars mentality has hit there. The prices are ridiculous - $122 for an un-named moth holed wool shirt with MAAF and AAF patches (non-bullion). $105 for a modern ARCOM in presentation box....and tons of blatantly repro Nazi stuff for insane prices. I would not waste time going down there - it's obvious someone in the store knows enough about militaria to jump on anything reasonable that comes into another booth.

A late response here but Jackson's Armory in Dallas is a great place even if window shopping. If you are north of Dallas the Perrin Air Museum in Denison is excellent. The admission is free and it is run by knowledgeable veterans. It has exhibits from the past 100 years or so. I spent 45 minutes with my 8 year old and he is pestering me to take him back.

We made a second trip to finish seeing this museum. Our tour guide was a fighter pilot who flew escorts for the bombers in WW2 over Europe. He went on to be a career officer. We've been twice and each time our guide has been a WW2 vet. I got some pictures of our guide with my kids and the staff signed some autographs. Just great folks and great patriots.

I think other than the two events held in Schertz, I have not seen really a good source our sources here/around San Antonio. I hope folks continue to post here for Texas. Many, many surplus stores are just gone as when it was in my youth some 5 decades ago. The events in Schertz are by far the best I've seen in/around Texas. I focus on DUI/DI unit crests, so my eyes scan over and don't absorb other stuff. Sometimes stuff presents itself in small batches at the swap meet off I-35 near Gruene exit.--Ray
