I didn't see this topic so lets start, I tried to resist adding Submarine patches to the collection but I got a few in trade and then saw some bargains... We all know the rest of the story.

So here are the few I have collected please feel free to add your own.

First up a USS Barbel fully embroidered

Hi Bearmon,

I don't think you will regret getting into collecting Silent Service patches. I love the looks of these type of patches and you have posted some nice ones. Another good thing about collecting these is that I don't !!! Ha Ha

Regards, Mitch

We have some other Regulus photos and patches on the forum, but I didn't see anything for the USS BARBERO (SSG-317)

Along with the USS TUNNY (SSG-282) these WWII vets were the first USN nuclear deterrent submarines, paving the way for the Polaris boats and future Boomers.

She also held the distinction of being the only 'Missile Mail' submarine, sending letters via a Regulus missile to NAVSTA Mayport, Florida.

Nice original cut edge Japanese patch, measuring 6" x 6" and probably made by Ace Novelty.

Unlike her sister Regulus submarines which were converted to APSS/LPSS service during Vietnam, BARBERO was struck and sunk in Hawaii in 1964

Los Angeles class USS HONOLULU (SSN-718) 5 1/2" fully embroidered patch

Maka'ala Mau - Always on Alert

In commission 1985-2007, although she is gone her bow section sails on.

It was attached to her sister submarine USS SAN FRANCISCO (SSN-711) after hers was severely damaged in a submarine vs. seamount collision.

The seamount won........

Salvage Sailor

...and if you are not familiar with the USS CHOPPER (SS-342) it's worth looking up.  She tore herself apart in an uncontrolled vertical plunge and wild broaching that all but destroyed her and placed her out of commission.
