USS Matsonia And USS Comet

Hello! My Dad served as Gunners Mate-part of the Navy gun crews on two ships during WW2. I have found info on the Matsonia,as it was a converted liner used for carrying troops to Pacific Theatre. However,I have not been able to find anything on the Comet. There were a couple of ships by that name,but the ones I have seen didnt have the history of the Comet my dad was on. He told me it was a converted ferry used in New York Harbor area prior to the War. If anyone has any information on this ship I would truly appreciate hearing from you. Thank you!
