Shepherd, Jr., Commandant of the Marine Corps from 1952 to 1956, presented the General Shepherd Trophy to the NBPRP in 1956. The trophy is a bronze replica of the Marine Corps War Memorial depicting the flag raising on Mount Suribachi during the battle of Iwo Jima World War II. Awarded to: Marine competitor with the highest aggregate score National Trophy Individual Rifle Match and the National Trophy Rifle Team Match (Active or Reserve) The 1971 winner was CWO2 MICHAEL PIETROFORTE, USMC with a score of 972-25X He entered service in July 1945, appears to have enlisted into Motor T serving with Amphibious Tracks 1st Moto T Bn, 2/17 1st Provisional Brigade, 2nd Amtrak Bn, 1st Amtrak Bn, H&S 6th Marines, 1st Combat Service Group in Korea, WFTBn Parris Island, H&HS Hawaii, , and disappearing as a TSgt in 1958 when the rolls end with Marksmanship Training Unit San Diego Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
