This USMC TSgt chevron came to me with grouping of WWII USMC PltSgt who was promoted to TSgt in 1951 but this chevron looks similar to WWI examples, its made on thick khaki canvas with wool grey straps, I have his PltSgt which looks like typical WWII-made on thin khaki canvas with green cotton straps. What are your opinions about this chevron? Is it WWII or earlier?

Its typical of the late 1930s and early WW2 years before the woven "bevo" type became common. this looks like it was cut down from a master tech. sergeant chevron, and it looks like the 2nd rocker was folded under to further reduce it to a Staff Sgt. chevron. it looks like the hem just came loose as the crease is still showing between the two flat ties.

I concur, with the opinions that your chevron is pre-War,they were used through WW2 and beyond,in my humble observations of WW2 USMC uniforms.
