Buckshot329 Posted October 1, 2014 Share #1 Posted October 1, 2014 Hello all Would this be a cap patch or something else? I have had it in my collection for a while now but never figured out. It's 1.4 inch wide and has the same colors as the Replacement Depot Patch so could it be a cap patch for this unit or am I way off? Thanks for any insight. ocsfollowme Posted October 1, 2014 Share #3 Posted October 1, 2014 i believe it is what the french forces training in the USA wore as a cap device on their caps. It was also made by patch king and can be found in their albums that children collected during and after the war.
Buckshot329 Posted October 1, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted October 1, 2014 So would this be Patch King or WW2?
ocsfollowme Posted October 1, 2014 Share #5 Posted October 1, 2014 Both. It's been confirmed that soldiers used patch king patches during the war--on this forum.

Lee Ragan Posted October 1, 2014 Share #8 Posted October 1, 2014 This is the French cockade, not the American version used by the U.S. Army Air Service in WWI.

atb Posted October 1, 2014 Share #10 Posted October 1, 2014 The difference being? The order of the colors-- WW1 Air Service is (from the innermost) white, blue, red.

Buckshot329 Posted October 2, 2014 Author Share #12 Posted October 2, 2014 So we can agree to the first conclusion of this patch being a patch king cap patch for the French Forces in the US?
Tom Pearcy Posted October 4, 2014 Share #13 Posted October 4, 2014 I also have one of these. Seems to be rather large for a cap. It was my understanding that they were worn above their unit/divisional SSI.
