heftaa01 Posted September 28, 2014 Share #27 Posted September 28, 2014 Grouping from a member of the 104th LRS Detachment from the mid-90's. Included are hot weather BDU's, OD Jungle Jacket, Beret, and PT Shirt. This short lived unit was one of the only Airborne elements in the history of the division, and deployed to Iraq, and was disbanded around 2009. wdphll Posted October 7, 2014 Share #34 Posted October 7, 2014 Don't show my stuff much anymore, but this is one of my favorite helmets. NCO painted 28th. If you look closely, you can tell that everything was over painted on larger keystones and NCO bar. I love these double painted helmets! patches Posted June 8, 2015 Share #42 Posted June 8, 2015 Any one got a copy of The Battle of the Bulge Then and Now by Jean Paul Pallud? It's an After the Battle published book. On page 243 there is a superb service portrait of one Major John Aiken, 110th Infantry, with liner with Keystone decal with Major, 110 over the crossed rifles. Now back in WWII during the opening phase of the German offensive Aiken was a young Captain in the 110th Inf, and defended the Chateau in the town of Clervaux in Luxemburg, they put up one hell of a fight, but were finally overcomed by troops of the 2nd Panzer Div, and Aiken wounded and what little men were left were captured. Aiken was now a Major when this portrait was taken, was in the 28th Div, and the very same 110th Inf, the place being Germany during the Bloody Bucket's period of active duty during the Korean War. Aiken was according to this artical below was apparently an orginal member of the Pennsylvania National Guard and stayed with the division the whole war, went on to be a Lieutenant Colonel apparently promoted upon retirement to Full Colonel in the Penna NG but other info on him is scarce. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=2519&dat=19700915&id=LMddAAAAIBAJ&sjid=ZV4NAAAAIBAJ&pg=2734,1954645 If some one does have the Then and Now Bulge book, a scan and posting of the photo would be appreciated. Am now able to scan this picture of Aiken as seen in the above mentioned book. Here's the Clervaux Castle and the surrounding area right after the battle from the same page as Aiken's portrait. And here's the same view today of the area. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clervaux_Castle
USdog Posted June 8, 2015 Share #43 Posted June 8, 2015 Here are my only 28th ID items. Both men were in the 112th Infantry Regiment. The first veteran was in Company A. He was a replacement in September 1944 and was later killed in action in the Hurtgen Forest. The second set I also have the grouping of but won't post it right now. The veteran that landed with the 28th in Normandy and participated in all of their campaigns up until he was captured in the Hurtgen Forest in November.
