Not the best shot, but I don't have ton of me in my kit, so this will do

I used to do Revolutionary War as a British Grenadier of the 10th Foot, but have been doing WW2 for a little over a year and a half now.

Private,

Baker Co, 1/104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Yankee Division

Okay guys,

Here is my first attempt at a Desert Shield/Storm impression. I would like some input from the guys who were there and see what they think.

At the time this is just a generic impression. When I have time I will finish it off as a Pvt. from the 1st Infantry Division.

Uniform:

6 color Shirt

6 color Trousers

Black web trouser belt

Jungle Boots

K-Pot with 6 color Cover and SDW goggles

6 color Boonie Cap (on pack)

Gear:

PASGT vest with 6 color cover

Pistol belt

Y suspenders

M-1961 buttpack

2 M-16 ammo pouches

2 1qt. Canteens in cases

2qt. canteen in case

Jungle 1st Aid Kit in case (on pack)

M-16 bayonet

1st aid pouch (on suspenders)

Leather pocket knife case (on suspenders)

Gasmask and bag (tied to pistol belt)

Flashlight (on pack)

Paracord (on pack)

Rain Poncho (on pack)

All of the above items are dated pre 1989 except for the 2qt canteen which is 1993 (my bro has my 1987 one)

Note: at this time the uniform is not for reenacting, it is only for display.

goodeo11.jpg

goodon11.jpg

By the end of the summer I hope to have all the stuff for my ALICE ruck, I still need the shovle with case, 6 color cover for the ruck, sleeping bag and pup tent.

BIG thanks to 1stDivVet, the long talks with him imspired me to start putting this set-up together.

Fins, thanks for all the help, tips, stories and pics.

Comments? Questions? Input?

When I have time i may post my WW2 and Nam impressions. And if I get the items I need, maybe Korea.

Thanks,

Tyler Cleaver

Okay guys,

Hey Tyler, your rig looks pretty good but a few changes you may want to consider. Nothing you've got there is really "wrong" these are just a few notes from experience. No doubt a million variations existed from one man to the next, from Marines to Army, and from orders to allowed preferrence.

Meaning that anything I say "we didn't do it that way" there may be some one who can say "we did" and vice versa.

First of all ditch the pocket knife on your "H Harness", it will get in the way of your buttstock and prevent well aimed rounds from going downrange. It's called a pocketknife for a reason.

(We still called it an "H Harness" even though its not really an "H" Harness anymore.)

Even though it was meant to go the way you have it rigged up, we usually attached the two rear clips of the "H Harness" directly to the belt, not to the top of the Buttpack. I seem to recall it that way anyway. Whatever works best for you on that one I guess.

Your belt is right where its supposed to be which means its up too high, let the straps down until your belt is almost at the bottom of your flak jacket. (PASGT vest to the army types.) Now take your first-aid kit off and open up the velcro closure on the back, close it around the rear strap of your H Harness so that its just above your buttpack. Thats where we wore it whenever we could.

Your flashlight and boonie cap (sun hat) are not going to be there when you want them. Take them off and stick them in your ALICE pack or buttpack. Or stuff them in your right cargo pocket. You should have a nutritious, delicious MRE in your left cargo pocket. Dark brown package, not the fancy tan ones with pogeybait and a heater inside. Turkey, Diced with Gravy was the best. Ham slice was good too.

Take the bayonet off your belt and attach it to the side of your buttpack using the eyelets on the flap and the tab on the side. Wrap the lower gasmask strap around your thigh or the stupid thing will flop all over the place when you doubletime and beat the hell out of your leg.

Last notes, those ammo pouches truly sucked. If you go prone they will be right in your gut. It's uncomfortable, it messes up your dope (ability to sight your weapon) and it makes it hard to get to your magazines, which defeats the whole purpose they exist in the first place. We usually left our belts open when we could and just let the suspenders hold everything in place.

You might add the little green hood that came with the sleeping bag under your helmet, we wore them alot even when it was hotter than ___.

I never had a 2 qt canteen so I can't say much about that except that if I could get away with it, I would have jut looped the strap over my belt and let it hang down behind me.

One more note: I noticed that your MX-991\U flashlight is the Vietnam era type with no guards alongside the switch. Stick that back with your 'nam stuff and get the newer type. Oh yeah, and get a haircut. ;)

GI,

Thanks for the info.

There is a seperate page about my impressions here

http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ind...mp;#entry578695

I have made most of the changes that you mentioned since the photos were taken.

Good point about the flashlight, but if it wasn't there I knew someone would say "You need to get a flashlight" the boonie is tied on there.

Also, I had just gotten a hair cut afew days before. I am a WWII reenactor, so I keep my hair longer that the army allowed at the time of DS. Right now this is just a side project, so I haven't put as much time into it as I need to.

Here's a shot from my latest event. I am on the right. This should be a 1943 Italian campaign impression...but I am wearing double buckles. This was shortly after we 'overran' the German trenches.

Hanging out with a few forum members at Fort MacArthur 2010, and borrowing their stuff.:lol:

I don't even know what all the stuff I was wearing even was.

To my knowledge, only the underwear, socks and the borrowed CAR15 airsoft were not original.

Next time, the parents are dropping me off in the morning and picking me up at night though :ermm:

Last time I looked, Wehrmacht stuff was German, not US? Last I heard the forum was for US only....period.

Has the Forum now been expanded to include non-US stuff?

I've got a bunch of NVA, Brit, German, French, and other uniforms, decs, and such. Would someone let me know?

I'm not specifically picking on this poster. I've understood that this Forum is limited to US subjects but have frequently see non-US posts, most often in this subject area.

Perhaps I'm just confused about the the Forum rules regarding a prohibition on non-US related posts; I'd also like to see some continuity in application of the Forum rules across the board.

I'd like for someone in a position of authority over the entire Forum to please clarify the rules; Is it limited to posts on US-only subjects? If not, I'd like to know exactly what non-US subject matter is and is not allowed on the Forum.

Thank you.
