KASTAUFFER
Interesting group to a Marine who served as a Platoon Sgt in the 1st Tank Bn, 1st Marine Division on Guadalcanal. He had 1 tank "shot out from under him" according to a newspaper article. He did earn a gold distinguished badge , but this one is not gold. It almost appear to be some sort of a "wearing copy"? USMCR79
In the last 4 years I have been listing any known Rim Numbered Good Conduct Medals that I can find with the assistance of other collectors sharing their information also (Thanks Bruce!!). This GCM was found on Facebook and bought by a friend who later sold it to me. It was listed as just a numbered GCM with no attribution however I was able to attribute it by way of the June 1990 Gleim Medal Auction (No. 24). USMCR79
Charles F. Hirsch served 1914-25 including service as a Sgt. with the 66th & 67th Companies 5th Marine Regiment in France (1918). He was medically discharged in 1925. This medal appears to be a 1920's reissue of a WWI period rim numbered medal. Bill
