Storage Building Find

Recommended Posts

I bought a M151 from a guy on craigslist a few months back and he mentioned the lady he was selling it for had a bunch more stuff sitting in a large storage building she needed to clean out so she could move. Her husband died 10 or so years ago and was a USMC Korean war vet and his son was not even slightly interested in the stuff so it sat for 10 years in the building. Most everything is in excellent condition due to dry environment. Haven't even looked through most of the crates yet but the ones I did were mostly stuffed with webgear, inert ordnance, tripods, etc. I'll have to spend several weeks going through everything. Here are a few pictures of the haul, left a lot of heavy large stuff such as USMC flood light kits etc.

Every crate is stuffed full. This a 22" Penseke truck (for scale purposes)

Here area few pics.

One of my favorite items. Peavler, I was told, was a close friend of the collector and a USMC sniper during Korea and early Vietnam. The trunk has a lot of his USMC uniforms etc. I haven't looked through it as it took about 12-13 hours to dig everything out and then load it.

Why can't we all be so lucky....

Congrats!

Great find

Give it time. There are no doubt hundreds of thes caches all over and as older collectors down size and others are passing away this scenario is going to repeat itself....again and again

I was told recently there was a wharehouse found in a metro area and it was filled with WW2 gear. The owner just wanted it cleaned out and had a "garage type sale" Pallets of gear was being sold I was told. Some I was told filtered into a gunshow in the area.

"In almost all wars, the sight of foreign troops brought fear and terror to the local people, destruction and often senseless killing of local citizens. However, the sight of the American GI always brought smiles and joy to the local French people. They knew we were there to liberate, not to conquer; to help, not to terrorize."
