Quartermaster School Pin

Would anyone have an idea as to whether this pin is from the WWII era? It is listed as that, but I don't know anything about these. The number on the back seemed more modern to me, but all I've been reading up on are wings. I'd like one of these Quartermaster Corps pins from the 1946 era, so was browsing through auctions. Any thoughts are welcome!

OK . . . now I have another question for you pros! Do you know if this pin would have been made around 1946? ;) Thanks!

The three digit code was adopted around 1963. A two digit code was adopted around 1953. For example "V1" indicated Vanguard between 1953 and 1963 and "V21" indicates Vanguard from 1963 on. (I think those are Vanguard's numbers). There is a thread somewhere on the forum that links to a list of all the manufacturer's codes. It is an excellent resource. In fact, finding that list is what led me to join this forum!

Elizabeth,

If you are asking whether the design of the DI existed in 1946, the simple answer is yes. If you are asking about the particular DI in the photo, the answer is no. The one photographed probably dates to the late 1970's to early 80's.

If you are looking for a WWII example, look for one with a pin back fastener.

This is a VERY common DI and a WWII example shouldn't run more than $10 shipped to your door.

Thanks for the info about the codes! Very helpful! Does anyone know if this was made as a pin in the 1940s? I haven't seen one anywhere online.

Thanks so much! Yes, I meant the design, not this particular pin. Pin back . . . I'll look for those! Thanks so much!
