Brig Posted September 16, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 16, 2014 Appears to be a nice portrait of a WWI Marine...11/17 might be the date...November 1917
12A54 Posted September 16, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 16, 2014 Pretty rare British-style overseas cap, so a fairly rare and very nice photo. No overseas bars, so probably early in the deployment (1917-8) rather than post-war (1919).

12A54 Posted September 16, 2014 Share #6 Posted September 16, 2014 And the 54473(?) might be his SN or AEF number. Just a guess.
crotalus358 Posted September 16, 2014 Share #7 Posted September 16, 2014 Or that number could be a negative number? Some studios kept records, but there's no studio ID that I can see via my phone. Great photo, and nice save! Steve

damoli Posted September 16, 2014 Author Share #10 Posted September 16, 2014 I found this some years ago when I was visiting family in the state of Washington. There was also a photo album thrown there, I looked trough it and it was mostly civilian photos. I did not take it since I was not sure it was legal to take things even though they were in boxes next to a dumpster. There was several boxes so now I regret not going trough them.. The photo was also in perfect condition but after 3 moves it has become damaged... Thanks anyway for the info guys.

atb Posted September 16, 2014 Share #12 Posted September 16, 2014 I thought I saw an Overseas Chevron. Nevermind. I see now that is the pointed cuff.
Brig Posted September 16, 2014 Share #13 Posted September 16, 2014 I think I see an Overseas Chevron, so at minimum he has been in the theater of operations for six months. I don't see a chevron, just the point of his cuff and a crease above it
