Obviously it's an APH-5, however I wasn't sure if it would have indeed belonged to a member of VF-1... TLeo Posted September 14, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 14, 2014 Looks like an air force hgu-22 helmet made up to look like Navy PRK shell to me. Note the thin hard edge roll as opposed to the thicker edge rolls used on Navy helmets from that era. Also the string tensioned earcups are a Air Force feature. BlueBookGuy Posted September 14, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 14, 2014 Maybe I'm wrong, but beware of this helmet... a badly messed up, early USAF HGU-2/P in my opinion turned into a ugly APH. If trying to make it into a HGU-33, the same bad result. * USAF-style spring-loaded earcups of early '60s, * more holes in left side, apparently with no meanings, * no photos showing what type of comm. cable does exit from the shell (full rear cable, or left-side jack?), * a later visor with trimming for MBU-12/P mask (!!), * standard USAF mask receivers, looking like much freshly-repainted grey (?), * the accompanying MBU-5/P has plastic-covered cable (existing only from late '70s on). I think it may be a US Army APH-5 which could explain the AN/AIC-10 communications and black edge trim. This is definitely not US Navy. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It was listed on eBay a month or two ago and just thought I'd get a few opinion on it. Lucky I didn't buy it! :-) It wen't for around $450US.
