Kurt Kurt, I have to thank you for being the first to ID Heafield from Morning Reports online! That really helped to get the ball rolling! Thanks a million! Cheers, Mike
jkash23686 Posted September 10, 2014 #31 Posted September 10, 2014 Mike, Great lid and great research. I don't even think I saw this sucker on ebay! -j
Theorywolf Posted September 10, 2014 Author #32 Posted September 10, 2014 After Heafield returned to California he married his wife in December 1943. She was working in a nearby war plane factory in California and they had met earlier before he left the US. He grew up in the wilderness up in the U.P. of Michigan and settled with his wife and raised his family on the prairie and Bad Lands near Glendive, Montana. He worked as a wheat farmer the rest of his life. His daughter and son told me that he never talked about the war except when his best friend (another Guadalcanal corpsman) came to visit!

sgtdorango Posted September 10, 2014 #41 Posted September 10, 2014 Holy smokes that one deserves a Bazinga!!!.............mike
Theorywolf Posted September 10, 2014 Author #42 Posted September 10, 2014 Sketch made of an actual USN Corpsman on Guadalcanal.
Ronnie Posted September 10, 2014 #43 Posted September 10, 2014 This is a superb helmet. Anything Guadalcanal is neat but an ID'ed M1 would be the coop deville! Ronnie
king802 Posted September 10, 2014 #44 Posted September 10, 2014 Mike, That's a great helmet. Congratulations. I've got an Army Medics helmet from Guadacanal and the wear on the liner and shell are practically identical to yours. Rich
ccmax Posted September 10, 2014 #45 Posted September 10, 2014 Congratulations, Mike. That is quite a find.
Theorywolf Posted September 10, 2014 Author #46 Posted September 10, 2014 Thanks Mike, Ronnie and Rich! And to my co-author, Cesar, thanks my friend. We have known each other and our collections for a long time now! Time for another book!
dustin Posted September 11, 2014 #47 Posted September 11, 2014 What I love about this helmet is the wear on the brim of the fiber liner, odd detail yes but that is wear from consistently adjusting his helmet to wipe his brow, possibly tilting it back to administer aid etc. it oozes been there.
BEAST Posted September 11, 2014 #49 Posted September 11, 2014 WOW! Corpsman and Guadalcanal? What a find! Thanks for posting!
