Unusual Pre-WWII Air Corps Chevrons.

These were unauthorized, but commonly worn. He would have been a Private First Class, but with a higher pay grade indicated by the mulltiple rockers As shown, he would have been in the Air Corps.

 

These were later replaced by the Technician grades T-2 and on up during WW2.. Nice example..

Just to add to Gil's information, the unofficial system of rockers started with one for specialist 6th class and went up to six for specialist 1st class. The grade there would be Private First Class, Specialist 4th Class. Thanks for the post,
