8th Naval Beach Battalion Patch

I got this patch a few years back and was told it was the 8th Naval Beach Battalion and was from WWII. When I purchased it, I was told it was a rare patch, as only about 450 of them were made. The patch was worn on the left shoulder of the HBT coveralls. The 8-ball patch was only worn at the Amphibious Training Base at Little Creek, Va. for a short time before the base commander ordered it removed as it looked "too Army".

Is any of this true? Is it a WWII patch? Thanks in advance.

A group of three sold on ebay a year ago for $500. To buy one by itself, expect to pay $175-250. The navy made few patches.

I have an article from an old MILITARIA magazine.According to the article I think only around a 100-400 were made. It's buried somewhere. These were worn state side on the utility shirts. But the unit commander said they looked to "ARMY" and ordered them removed.I also have one.Never knew what it was until I came across the article.I always thought it was a novelty "odd-ball" type patch.Excellent find.
