ww2vault Posted June 21, 2008 #1 Posted June 21, 2008 Hello, I have been lucky enough to find a WWII veteran who was in the 82nd Airborne division, 505th infantry regiment, that would like to be interviewed. He told me he jumped during Normandy and went on to serve in Korea and Vietnam, a total of thirty years of service. He was in the 101st during Vietnam. I have some questions that I plan on asking him but wondered if anyone here could come up with a few that pertain more towards the 82nd Airborne and some of service? After I record the interview, I will be sure to upload the video onto YouTube and let everyone here enjoy it. So any questions you would like to ask him, just post them and you may find your question in the interview. - Jeff
Gregory Posted June 21, 2008 #2 Posted June 21, 2008 Jeff, If I may suggest anything... Try to focus in this interview on as early period as possible. You know -- Normandy, Normandy, Normandy, everywhere Normandy in literature and movies but what earlier? I do not tolerate this manner of presenting history. It looks like the US airborne troops arrived in Normandy from the Moon. Ask veteran as detailed as possible about his basic and advanced training, ask him about his jump instructors (maybe from the US Forest Service - the best parachutists in the world then), ask him about preparations for the MTO operations, ask for MTO operations. If I may suggest -- do not concentrate on Normandy because it is enaugh this subject everywhere. A quarter of century ago I loved the subject of D-Day but today I nearly die of boredom seeing one more story from Normandy. And my friends' reactions are similar. On the other hand all fans of the US WWII airborne troops are loking for information about African and Italian threads. Best regards Greg
