mysteriousoozlefinch Posted December 1, 2025 #328 Posted December 1, 2025 The 1988 Gibraltar Industries contract BDU of Col. Stanley G. Jacobs, commander of the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment (Tennessee National Guard) from 1997 to 2000/2001. Col. Jacobs had been in the TN NG since 1964 barring post-college years on active duty as an infantry officer with 1/509th Infantry in Germany, part of the 8th Infantry Division's airborne brigade.

Wow love the full bird colonel rank nice bdu!
mysteriousoozlefinch Posted December 1, 2025 #330 Posted December 1, 2025 Thank you! I don't have too many Colonels, that's true. It it's something you're interested in, I've posted my Brigadier General ACU in that thread.
gimmie Posted December 31, 2025 #331 Posted December 31, 2025 Just purchased my first BDU! I managed to identify it to retired colonel Glenn Vavra. I'm planning on restoring it when it arrives. It appears to be from when he was a captain. In the early 80's at the rank of captain he commanded the Special forces Gabriel demonstration team for a while. I did manage to find a very brief biography on him from 2002 that mentions he was 'involved in many of the SOF operations over the past twenty years'. I'm still trying to grasp what that could imply as I'm more familiar with Vietnam-era material than post-Vietnam so if anyone could add their speculations it'd be more than welcome. Additionally I'd love to know if anyone here has any tips on restoring this jacket. Does anyone know a place that reproduces name/branch tapes from the 80's that'd fit this jacket well? I'm also considering perhaps just seeing if there are any more experienced sewers in the community to whom I could leave the task entirely up to. I'm not that fussed about price. I really like the history behind it. Enjoy!!
easterneagle87 Posted January 1 #332 Posted January 1 Interesting Coast Guard BDU offered on Poshmark. Listed as LT COL, but should be a LT CMDR. Port Security water wings with Senior Jump wings. Could be an interesting story.

Beveaux Posted January 31 #335 Posted January 31 Very crisp 1996 contract-dated Staff Sergeant's BDU I found years back in great condition. Patched with 130th Engineer Brigade and FORSCOM SSI as well as a US Army Recruiter badge.
mysteriousoozlefinch Posted February 1 #336 Posted February 1 Adding to my Panama collection, a 5th Infantry Division coat with 5th Infantry Division combat patch and CIB on this 1985 contract coat. Collar pins are missing but there's a clear faded outline for a Staff Sergeant. Even though it's missing a name tape, the impression is clear size wise and seems to match the tape on the otherwise stripped companion it came with GUY. It was originally sewn on short and centered.

I think the early ones didn't.
